So, Pseudo Winter Break, eh? What should I do? Maybe it was having Erica here that made me start jones-ing for a trip myself, but I'm feeling restless on the island and I just want to gooooo. The only problem - where to? I could be stoked for 2 weeks of climbing in Tonsai, a passage on some sail boat situation, getting certified for diving, or going on a backpacking adventure up to northern Thailand (Chiang Mai/Pai/and such). Decisions, decisions. I've kinda got the party out of my system - false - you can't take the party out of me! However, I'm pondering different types of travel adventures and trying to decide how to best spend Pseudo Winter Break. I'm pretty sure I want to do something new and as always, an "adventure" sounds right. I don't want to just go and chill in a place - I want to go and do something a little extreme. I'm leaning towards Chiang Mai - but only if I get to do some climbing. Do I sound obsessed? I think I might be.
This is the northern region of Thailand in a place called Pai. It looks absolutely beautiful and apparently a lot more people are headed out that direction now to chill in bungalows on the river and to take advantage of that whole eco adventure atmosphere. I just want to meet cool people in random locations. Yeah, I'm thinkin' about hippies. I just want to climb rocks with hippies and gush about granola and patchouli oil! Is that so much to ask?
Chiang Mai is a city nestled in the lush and beautiful mountains of northern Thailand. It is close to Pai and is part of what is referred to as, the Golden Triangle. On top of that, it's just supposed to be a fun city, yet cultural too. :)
I'm feeling restless and maybe it is the Flagstaff influence kicking in, but I need mountains in my life and let's face it, I'm continuously....oh damn, is that what I think it is? Yes, flannel!...I'm continuously obsessed with hippies and flannel.

Although, it is 90 degrees out here and a flannel wearer would have to be a masochist. Yet, it's official, I'm leaning towards backpacking with hippies. However, I'm going to check out doing a sailing passage, because I can only imagine how fantastic it would be to sail around the South Pacific. Not only that, but in light of the recession, and it is high time that I figured out a way to finance my travel bug. If I must. (p.s. I've been blaming the recession for years). I didn't have to partake in 25 cent drinks in college, dressed as Cindy Lauper and dancing my ass off to Duran Duran, but it was the recession and I was just being economically responsible! Same same, but different.
If the modern day pirate position is filled, I'm going to head north. It is time for me to get out of here and go do some exploring on my own. I love traveling by myself and I love that it pushes me a bit. Every so often, I get comfortable in a place and I just want to be pushed to do something new - out of my comfort zone - off the beaten path. I can't believe that there is so much of this country that I have yet to explore and therefore, I think it is more than likely that I'm going to be going towards Chiang Mai and Pai. I'll take some books and a journal and bail for 2 weeks. To the north I come! What did I say about heading up?
It's Pseudo Winter Break! T'is the season for mountains, holiday songs (probably top 40 tracks..I know how Thailand is), and folks who would dress in flannel if the Land of Smiles wasn't the set of Tropic Thunder! Now, where do you think I could find some egg nog?
Happy Holidays!
